Box blind on skids plans
A box blind that sits 11-3/4 in. off the ground on treated 4x6 skids, so there's nothing to climb and you can drag it to where the deer are. Drop-down windows set for a seated rifle rest, a door that swings in, a steel roof, a towing plan and corner tie-downs.
- 4 sizes
- 33 to 34-page PDF
- 14 illustrated steps

What's in the plan
- A shopping list: lumber rounded to boards you can buy, sheet counts, and every bolt, screw, hanger, hinge and anchor
- A cut list with a letter on every part. The steps and drawings use the same letters, so you can cut one step's parts and check them off
- Illustrated steps in build order, with each step's new parts shown in orange
- Framing drawings with dimensions, elevations and (on most plans) board-by-board cut diagrams
- A tools list, the plan's materials estimate at 2026 big-box prices, and a safety page
- A printable PDF: US Letter, imperial measurements. Not a kit or CAD files
How it's built
- Two treated 4x6 skids on edge, ends cut at 45 degrees so they ride over the ground, tow holes at both ends
- 2x6 floor frame tied to the skids with hurricane ties and framing angles, 3/4 in. treated plywood floor
- One drop-down window per wall, 18 in. tall, sill 38 in. up for a seated rifle or crossbow rest (the 4x6 gets a peep window in back)
- A 24 x 60 in. door that swings in, and a ribbed steel roof at 2 in 12 with a 12 in. front overhang
- A towing plan: a 3/8 in. grade 70 chain bridle pulling from both skids, hitched only to the drawbar
- Mobile-home frame ties wrapped around each skid end in a cut groove, run out to 4 ft auger anchors at every corner

Questions
Which size should I build?
4x6 for 2 hunters on chairs, 6x6 for 2 to 3, 6x8 for 3 to 4, and 8x8 for 4 to 6. All four are the same height, about 8 ft 10 in. overall.
How do I move it?
Drag it on its skids with a chain bridle from both front tow holes to the drawbar. The plan's rough pull on flat wet grass runs from about 550 lb for the 4x6 to about 900 lb for the 8x8, so for most sizes that means a tractor, not an ATV.
Does it need anchors if it's on the ground?
Yes. The plan's rough estimate is that an unanchored blind can tip or slide in a gust of about 40 to 55 mph depending on size and which way the wind hits, and gusts of 45 to 50 mph are common. Anchor it the day it lands.
