What's in the plan
- A shopping list: lumber rounded to boards you can buy, sheet counts, and every bolt, screw, hanger, hinge and anchor
- A cut list with a letter on every part. The steps and drawings use the same letters, so you can cut one step's parts and check them off
- Illustrated steps in build order, with each step's new parts shown in orange
- Framing drawings with dimensions, elevations and (on most plans) board-by-board cut diagrams
- A tools list, the plan's materials estimate at 2026 big-box prices, and a safety page
- A printable PDF: US Letter, imperial measurements. Not a kit or CAD files
How it's built
- Treated 2x6 floor frame on patio blocks no more than 4 ft apart, gapped 2x6 floor boards 9 in. off the ground
- Ground-contact 4x4 posts through-bolted to the rim, with an earth anchor and strap at every post
- Doubled 2x6 headers in post caps, 45 degree knee braces at every post, and a diagonal in each side so it can't rack
- 2x6 rafters and a 3 in 12 steel roof with a 16 in. front overhang to keep rain off the face of the stack
- Horizontal treated 2x4 slats with 1-1/2 in. gaps on the back and both sides

Questions
How much wood does each size hold?
The 5x4 holds about 0.56 cords, the 8x4 about 0.96 cords and the 16x4 a full 2 cords, counting 16 in. splits stacked two rows deep. A cord is 4 x 4 x 8 ft, 128 cu ft.
Where should it go?
At least 20 ft from the house (bugs ride in on firewood), with the open front where you'll pull wood from and the slatted back toward the prevailing wind.
How hard is it to build?
It's the easiest plan we sell: beginner to intermediate, 1 to 2 weekends for the two smaller sizes, about 2 weekends with a helper for the 16x4.
Read the build guide: materials, cost, cut overview and the mistakes to avoid.

The bundle pairs this plan with the walk-in chicken coop plans. Both are full plans, each with its own shopping list, cut list, steps and drawings.
